I woke up on Sunday morning with another random song in my head, Jack and Diane by John “Don’t Call Me Cougar” Mellencamp. Within two sips of coffee, I knew today's call to adventure was:
- Locate a Tastee Freez.
- Drive to said Tastee Freez.
- Order, pay for and suck on a chili dog outside, said Tastee Freez.
- Memorialize this moment with a selfie.
Strangely Enough, It Became an Exercise in Confronting Fear
Fear comes in all flavors. From the necessary rabid Rottweiler fear needed for self-preservation to the neurotically-seasoned, like your fear of looking foolish. Given that fulfilling my morning-long dream of personifying a lyric in an 80's soft rock icon’s song had the minimal potential for physical harm, I decided that this apprehension was lightly dashed with negativity around self-consciousness.
- I’m a grown man, and potentially I would need to explain the selfie I would surely be taking.
- I’m a grown man taking a selfie.
- People would think I’m weird.
- I’m not too fond of hot dogs. But I do like chili, so…
